Kitten’s Little Angels - Final piece of Rog Minotaur’s “Freedom of Flight”

Once upon a time, long long ago, there was a little kitten. This little kitten lived a special life. Afraid to go out of the house, he was content to play with his brother and show off for his mommy. But one day something caught his eye: a flutter of movement from someplace beyond his little world. He went to the window, which showed the place his mommy called the outside world. The little fluttering intrigued him and he put his paws on the window sill and stood gazing out. Two little birds fluttered and flitted before his eyes. Amazed, the little kitten’s golden eyes grew as large as saucers at the fantastic sight.

As time passed, the little kitten grew tired but didn’t want to leave the sight of these marvelous little creatures. He wondered if their were fairies or angels dancing in front of him. It became dark and he grew tired. But yet he watched, putting his head on the window sill, watching the little birds on the tree. His mother came into the room and she saw the little kitten, fallen asleep but still standing, gazing out of the window. His mother sighed and picked up the dreaming kitten, tucking him into his bed.

That night he dreamed of flying and dancing with these little creatures, his angels.

The next morning he ran to the window, lifted himself up and looked for his little friends... the angels that flew outside. His tail flicked nervously, his eyes searched until he saw them. As if on cue, they flew to the branch and he watched his friends till nightfall when his mother picked him up and placing him back into bed.

The next day, the little kitten ran to the window as soon as he woke and found to his surprise his mother had made him a little ledge during the night. He happily scampered onto it sat watching the birds fly by. It was exciting to see them fly and frolic and best yet, he didn’t have to strain or move to see them anymore. He looked around and realize who he needed to share this with: his mommy. He ran over to her and pulled her over to see these magical creatures. For hours he would sit there holding her paw in his and smiling. Talking about these wonderful creatures. The two spent many magical moments staring at the birds; watching them flitter in the sky. They felt closer than ever before because of these angels in the sky.

Then one day he was sitting there watching his angels when something made him look away. There wa a strange rustling sound and he turned back to the window. What he saw terrified him! A black shadow descended in front of his eyes, making him shiver and causing his hackles to rise. The little kitten didn’t know what to do! His little angles were gone and this creature had taken their place. The black creature moved it’s rough head and fixed him with a firey red eye. The little kitten felt as though the eye was burning him as it stared. Then without any provocation the devilish thing unfurled its murky, black wings which seemed to blot out the sky. It opened its jagged beak and let out a horrible, croaking CAW!

The little kitten ran as fast as his shaking, little legs could take him. He sprinted past his brother and dove under his bed. Shivering, he hid underneath it for hours and wondering what happened to his little friends, his angels.

Finally the little kitten heard someone come into the room. Peaking cautiously out from under the edge of his bedspread he saw his mommy holding her arms out for him. “Everything is fine, mommy is here” she spoke softly to him. He crawled out from under the bed, dashed to her and threw himself into her arms. His body shaking he couldn’t stop kissing his mommy. “She’s alive she escaped to!” was all the little kitten thought about. For what felt like an eternality all the little kittle did was sit in his mother’s arm rubbing and kissing until the bad incident was a faded away.

To this day, the little kitten doesn’t dare to even look in the direction of the window. It doesn’t matter. All he cares is that he has everything in his little world. All safe inside the house – including his mommy. And he knows for a simple fact that his mommy loves him and he loves his mommy too. And that’s the way it will always be.

Part of Rog Minotuar’s “Freedom of Flight” series.

Maybe this little kitten should watch mice instead of parrotlets.
